Bartley, Ewart
Ewart (Andrew) Bartley. Organist, choirmaster, teacher, composer, b Toronto 4 Jan 1909, d Cambridge, Ont 28 Aug 1987. He studied piano in Woodstock, Ont, and at the TCM with Albert Jordan (organ), Ernest Seitz (piano), and Healey Willan (composition). In 1943 he became music director of Knox's Presbyterian Church, Galt (Cambridge), Ont. He served as an examiner for the Western Ontario Cons and for the RCMT. Of his more than 60 compositions many are for piano, including The Whistling Boy and River Song (Harris 1966), Suite for Children (Jarman 1950), and Two Dances for Piano (Harris 1960). The dances have been recorded by John Newmark (RCI 134). Bartley published a choral work, 'Blessed is the Man', in 1975.
