Ginette Bellavance. Composer, radio and TV host, singer,b Lévis, near Quebec City, 30 Jun 1946; BA (Montreal) 1966, L MUS (Montreal) 1971. She studied music at the University of Montreal, where her composition teacher was Serge Garant. On a Canada Council grant she did research in auditory perception which provided material for her teaching at the University of Montreal. She also taught electroacoustics and stage music at the UQAM. From 1969 to 1974 she directed the experimental music group YUL for which she wrote songs. She composed incidental music for Tirso de Molina's Le Timide au palais in 1971, Molière's Don Juan in 1972, Marcel Godin's Julien, Julien in 1973, Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac in 1974, Luc Durand's Le Mode d'emploi in 1979, and other plays. Most of her incidental music was written for productions by the Théâtre populaire du Québec, the Théâtre du Nouveau-Monde, and the Nouvelle compagnie théâtrale. Her Match en coordonnées (1971) for two percussionists, two electric guitars, and tape was conducted by Serge Garant as part of the Nocturnales of the University of Montreal in 1975. Her Étude I and II for guitar were published by Éditions Doberman-Yppan in 1980. For the NFB, she composed the music for several short films and for the 1981 feature-film Not a Love Story. From 1974 to 1988, she collaborated on various CBC radio and TV productions, as composer or as organizer-researcher. Starting in the early 1980s, she produced shows, notably in Montreal, Quebec City and for the French network of CBC TV, in which she revealed her talents as composer, singer, and actress. In 1980 she perfomed as singer in the premiere of Walter Boudreau'sCoffre I. She recorded the LPs Bellavance (1980, Diskade NVSP-1000) and Conte du pays de Zizanie (1982, Éd. Gé. Bé). In 1990 she was preparing a third LP of songs.
