Nadia Turbide. Musicologist, teacher, translator, broadcaster, b Montreal 12 Jun 1945; BA music (Montreal) 1965, ARCT 1966, B MUS (McGill) 1969, MMA musicology (McGill) 1976, PH D musicology (Montreal) 1986.She studied with Elizabeth O'Neill (music history) and Gerald Wheeler (piano) at Marianopolis College where she was the first recipient of a BA with a major in music. At McGill University she studied with Charles Reiner and Lubka Kolessa (piano), Marvin Duchow (musicology) and Kelsey Jones (counterpoint). Her thesis director at the University of Montreal was Louise Hirbour. In 1974 she began teaching music history, theory, and ear training at Vanier Cegep. Turbide has prepared radio documentaries for CBC, in particular on Wilfrid Pelletier, Marvin Duchow, and Charles Reiner. She has done research on the career of Éviola Gauthier, whose biography she was preparing in 1991, and on Charles A.E. Harriss, first director of the McGill Cons. With Frederick A. Hall, Bruce Minorgan and others, she compiled A Basic Bibliography of Musical Canadiana (Toronto 1970). She has contributed to EMC and to the New Grove Dictionary of American Music (4 vols, London 1986) and published a few articles on Éviola Gauthier.
