Tétrachromie

Tétrachromie. Ballet by Ludmilla Chiriaeff (choreography) and Pierre Mercure (music), commissioned by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens for the inauguration of the PDA, Montreal, in 1963. The form of the ballet was suggested to Chiriaeff by the rhythm and nature of life's seasons, and the movements were associated with the colours green, yellow, red, and white. Decor and costumes were by Jean-Paul Mousseau. The work was rehearsed but never presented because the festival at which it was to be performed was cancelled. The scoring of the music is for clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, percussion, and tape. In December 1964 the work was recorded for Columbia (MS-6763, re-released on CD 4-ACM 35) by members of the Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra under the composer's direction. The original tape of the recording has been lost.
