Trio de Montréal

Trio de Montréal (1975). Piano trio founded in Montreal in 1975 by Luis Grinhauz (violin), Guy Fouquet (cello), both MSO members, and Berta Rosenohl-Grinhauz (piano). It has performed all over Canada, in particular at the Festival international de Lanaudière, the Festival d'été international de Québec, and in Frederiction, NB, as well as on CBC radio. In 1980, the ensemble made a tour in Argentina. It performed for the SMCQ in 1984, performing works by Charles Ives and John Winiarz. Its repertoire includes traditional works for this grouping as well as works by Canadian composers such as Alexis Contant, Rodolphe Mathieu, and Clermont Pépin. In 1977 the ensemble recorded George Fiala's Three Movements with Robert Verebes, viola player (5-ACM 27), and in 1980 Pépin's Suite and Mathieu's Trio (RCI 514; Mathieu's work was re-issued on 4-ACM 32).

An earlier Trio de Montréal (1922), founded in 1922, was made up of Jeanne Labrecque (violin), Yvette Lamontagne (cello), and Albertine Morin-Labrecque (piano), and a Montreal Trio was formed in the early 1930s by Alexander Brott (violin), Jean Belland (cello), and Edmond Trudel (piano).
