    Arthur Powell (Primary Source)

    Arthur Powell served as an officer with the Royal Artillery in the 37th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment. He was sent to North Africa in November 1940 and commanded two anti-aircraft guns. He was captured in April 1941 and sent to Italy as a prisoner of war. He was interned at two camps in Italy, and following the invasion of the peninsula, he was moved up to Germany. While in the camps, he created three camp magazines, the “Rezzanello Review,” the “Padula Parade,” and “Inside Out,” all of which were circulated among the prisoners. In addition to the magazines, he created a board game, and participated in plays and reviews, all within the confines of the prison camps.Please be advised that Memory Project primary sources may deal with personal testimony that reflect the speaker’s recollections and interpretations of events.
