Sir Ernest (Alexander Campbell) MacMillan.

Sir George Robert Parkin, educator (b at Salisbury, NB 8 Feb 1846; d at London, Eng 25 June 1922). In his own words, the "wandering evangelist of Empire," Parkin was a successful teacher at New Brunswick high schools

Sir Robert Alexander Falconer, clergyman, scholar, educator (b at Charlottetown 10 Feb 1867; d at Toronto 4 Nov 1943). Falconer spent much of his youth in Trinidad, where his Presbyterian clergyman father had been posted.

Sir Samuel Hughes, teacher, journalist, soldier, politician (born at Darlington, Canada W 8 Jan 1853; died at Lindsay, Ont 24 Aug 1921). A Conservative and an enthusiastic supporter of Sir John A. Macdonald's National Policy, Sam Hughes was elected to Parliament for Victoria North in 1892.

Sister Marie-Stéphane (b Hélène Côté). Teacher, composer, b St-Barthélémy, Que, 9 Jan 1888, d Montreal 9 Aug 1985; D MUS (Montreal) 1936. She began musical studies at five with her elder sister and continued them in her parish convent.

Snjolaug (Anna) Sigurdson. Pianist, teacher, b Arborg, north of Winnipeg, 5 Nov 1914, d Winnipeg 22 Aug 1979; ATCM 1932, LRSM 1933, LMM 1936. She studied with Eva Clare in Winnipeg, and then with Ernest Hutcheson and Muriel Kerr in New York.

Sonja Behrens (née Peterson), pianist, teacher (born 13 April 1938 in Medford, Oregon; died 24 February 2012 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania). B MUS (Willamette), M SC (Juilliard) 1962, PhD (Boston).

Sonnet L'Abbé, poet, literary critic, teacher (born at Toronto, Ont, 24 September 1973). Sonnet L'Abbé's poetic themes of ethnicity and environmentalism display the influence of her father, a FRANCO-ONTARIAN potter, and mother, a Guyanese artist.

One of Canada's most prolific composers, Glick wrote in all media, including chamber music, oratorio, vocal and choral works, integrating the Jewish religious musical idiom into his compositions. His works are noted for their lyricism and emotional appeal.

Srul Irving (b Israel) Glick. Composer, radio producer, conductor, teacher, b Toronto 8 Sep 1934, d Toronto 17 Apr 2002; B MUS (Toronto) 1955, M MUS (Toronto), honorary FRCCO (1993).

St George B. (Baron le Poer) Crozier. Teacher, conductor, composer, b Dover, England, 13 May 1814, d Belleville Ont, 21 Nov 1892. The few isolated known facts of Crozier's life suggest that he was a musician of more than ordinary merit.

Stanley McCartney. Clarinetist, teacher, b Vancouver 15 Mar 1930. He first studied clarinet in Vancouver with Bernard Temoin. He continued his studies in New York in 1953 with Daniel Bonade and later in Cleveland with Robert Marcellus.

In 1953 Cosgrove received a Canadian government fellowship to continue his studies in France where he fostered an early interest in the work of the French painters Braque and Rouault. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s Cosgrove was involved in other pursuits besides his painting.

Stanley Saunders. Administrator, educator, conductor, clarinetist, b Newport, Gwent (then Monmouthshire), Wales, 3 May 1927; DIP MUS (Wales) 1951, M MUS (Oregon) 1967, DMA (Oregon) 1970.

Stanley Vollant, CQ, Innu surgeon, professor and lecturer (born 2 April 1965 in Quebec City, Quebec). Vollant is the first Indigenous surgeon trained in Quebec. In 1996, he received a National Aboriginal Role Model Award from the Governor General of Canada. Vollant began Innu Meshkenu in 2010, a 6,000 km walk to promote the teachings of First Nations and to encourage Indigenous young people to pursue their dreams. In 2016, he founded the non-profit organization Puamun Meshkenu to inspire and support Indigenous peoples in their mental and physical health.

Sylvia Olga Fedoruk, physicist, educator, lieutenant-governor of Saskatchewan (born at Canora, Sask 5 May 1927; died at Saskatoon, Sask 26 Sep 2012).
